In October 2025, about 600,000 eligible Alaska residents will receive $1,000 payments from the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD). This isn’t a federal stimulus check, but a yearly payment unique to Alaska.
The PFD provides residents with part of the state’s oil revenues, reflecting the idea that Alaska’s natural resources belong to everyone in the state.
How Much Will the Payment Be?
For 2025, the payment is set at $1,000 for each eligible person. While it doesn’t set a new record, this amount is higher than the average over the past ten years and is expected to benefit local families and the state’s economy.
When Will Payments Be Sent?
Payments will be distributed in three rounds:
- First Round: If you registered online and your status is “Eligible – Not Paid” by September 18, 2025, you’ll get the payment directly into your bank account on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
- Second Round: If you chose to receive a physical check or mailed your application, checks will be sent out on Thursday, October 23, 2025, as long as your eligibility is confirmed by October 13.
- Third Round: If your application was approved but you didn’t get paid in the first two rounds, you may get your payment in the third round on November 20, 2025, if your status is “Eligible – Not Paid” by November 12.
What is the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD)?
The PFD is an annual payment that goes to Alaska residents as a share of the state’s natural resource wealth.
It started in 1976, based on the idea that the state’s oil revenues should be saved for future generations, while also sharing a portion each year with residents.
It is not based on financial need or a response to economic trouble; it is a right for those who qualify.
Who Is Eligible?
To get the 2025 payment, you must:
- Have lived in Alaska for all of 2024
- Plan to stay in Alaska permanently
People who have been incarcerated, convicted of certain crimes, or who claimed to live in another state or country during 2024 are not eligible. These rules are in place to make sure the payments go only to true Alaska residents.
