March 2026 Money Update: Which States are Sending Checks?

As we head into March 2026, many Americans are looking for extra financial support. While the federal government is not sending out a nationwide stimulus check, several states are distributing their own rebates and tax relief payments.

Here is what you need to know about who is getting paid and how to qualify.

Alaska: Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD)

Alaska is continuing to send out payments from its 2023 Permanent Fund Dividend, which is worth $1,000 per person.

  • Key Payment Date: If your application status is marked as “Eligible-Unpaid” by March 11, 2026, you should receive your money on March 19, 2026.
  • Deadline to Apply: If you haven't applied for next year’s dividend yet, you have until March 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM to submit your application.
  • Who can get it? To qualify, you must have lived in Alaska for the entire previous year, plan to stay there indefinitely, and not have claimed residency in any other state.

Federal Tax Refunds (IRS)

For those who filed their taxes early, help is on the way from the federal government in the form of tax credits.

Starting March 2, 2026, the IRS will begin depositing refunds for people who claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC).

These payments provide a significant boost for millions of families across the country.

Support in Other States

A few other states are also providing financial relief this month:

  • New York: The state is continuing to send out STAR tax relief checks to homeowners. They are also distributing "cost-of-living" credits to help residents manage rising expenses.
  • Colorado: Local officials are still processing refund payments for specific groups who met residency requirements in 2025. This includes:
    • Low-income residents.
    • People with disabilities.
    • Seniors aged 65 and older.

Summary

If you live in one of these states or filed for specific federal tax credits early in the year, keep a close eye on your bank account this month.

Most of these payments are processed automatically, but for Alaskans, the deadline to apply for future funds is fast approaching on March 31.
