AT&T has agreed to pay $177 million to settle class action lawsuits relating to a personal data breach that happened in 2021.
This breach exposed sensitive customer information, including names, dates of birth, and social security numbers. Although AT&T did not admit to being at fault, the company will pay compensation to affected customers.
Who Is Eligible for Compensation?
You may qualify for a payment if you meet these requirements:
- You were an AT&T customer or had an account with the company before January 2023.
- Your personal data was compromised in the 2021 breach.
- You received a notice by mail or email from AT&T or the official settlement administrator (Kroll), saying you are eligible.
If you are unsure about your eligibility, you can check your status on the official settlement website by using your name and the identification number found in the letter or email you received.
How Much Money Could You Receive?
Eligible customers could get:
- Up to $7,500: If you can prove actual expenses or losses due to the data breach (such as fraud, loss of funds, or extra bank charges).
- A basic payment of up to $75: For anyone who spent time dealing with problems related to the breach, no extra proof is needed.
- 12 months of free credit monitoring through Experian.
How to Make a Claim
Follow these steps:
- Visit the official settlement website.
- Click on “Submit a claim.”
- Enter the unique identification number you received in the mail or email.
- Select the type of compensation you want to claim.
- Attach supporting documents if you are claiming expenses (for example, bank statements or fraud reports).
- Submit the form before October 30, 2025.
You can also send your claim by mail. Instructions are available on the official website.
When Will You Get Your Payment?
After you submit your claim, a judge will review everything. If the process goes smoothly, payments are expected to start in late 2025 or early 2026.
If your data was compromised, it’s a good idea to check if you qualify and submit a claim—especially if the breach caused you financial trouble or stress.
Don’t forget to check your email for messages from AT&T regarding this settlement, and make sure to act before the deadline on October 30, 2025.
